Everyone has a right to their opinion, good or bad, and the right to express it within reason. Blatant hatred has no place in any form of media, but where will they stop as more rights are eroded in the name of political correctness, or viewpoints deemed offensive by the government.
We have been down this road before with very dangerous outcomes, and in some countries, it is still an issue where government controls what the public sees in media. Canada is slowly losing its freedoms that many sacrificed to guarantee, and this has to stop now. If we don’t speak out loudly today, we may never have the chance to do so later. Truer words as those, penned by Lorne Gunter, have never been written about Canada, it’s government, and the current state of affairs of this nation.
Every month it becomes clearer and clearer that the Trudeau Liberals have no understanding of free speech.
But what is never, never, never acceptable is for supposedly unbiased civil servants to lean on private citizens to button their lips in the name of preserving the current government’s electoral chances.
You may think regulating Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and the like sounds like a good idea. Who wants hate messages out there on popular, free apps? But who gets to decide what’s hateful? Once we’ve stopped the posts that are most obviously hateful, I guarantee you, those in charge will turn their censor’s power to people who disagree with open immigration or transgender issues or multiculturalism.
